Prof. Dr. Burak Kaya was born in Ankara, Turkey, in 1977. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education at TED Ankara College. In 2000, he graduated from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Kaya then completed the Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery residency program at Ankara University School of Medicine in 2008.

From 2008 to 2011, Dr. Kaya fulfilled his mandatory service at the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Ankara Training and Research Hospital. Between 2009 and 2010, he served as a Plastic Surgeon at Van Military Hospital during his military service.

In 2011, he began working in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at Ankara University School of Medicine. In 2013, he was appointed an Assistant Professor. In 2014, he participated in an observership program at the Department of Plastic Surgery at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea.

In 2016, he earned the title of Associate Professor. That same year, he completed the PhD program in Clinical Anatomy at the Department of Anatomy, Ankara University Institute of Health Sciences. In 2017, he completed the Microsurgery Fellowship program at the China Medical University Hospital in Taichung, Taiwan, under the supervision of Professor Hung-Chi Chen.

In 2023, Prof. Dr. Kaya was promoted to full Professor at Ankara University, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery, and was appointed Head of the Department. Alongside his department leadership role, he held several administrative positions, including Assistant Professor Representative and Associate Professor Representative on the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Executive Board, Member of the Clinical Anatomy Research and Simulation Center Executive Board, Member of the Postgraduate Education and Coordination Board, Coordinator for Accreditation in Medical Specialization Education in Surgical Sciences, and Deputy Director of the Ankara University Medical Design Application and Research Center.

In 2025, Prof. Dr. Kaya transitioned from his position at Ankara University to establish his private practice, where he continues to advance his professional expertise.

Prof. Dr. Kaya is an active member of the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery, serving on its Board of Directors between 2018 and 2021. He is also a member of the Turkish Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors. Additionally, he is an active member of the Turkish Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and the Emergency Hand Care and Microsurgery Society.

He holds the Turkish Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Qualification Certificate and is a fellow of the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
