Scars can carry both physical and emotional traces of trauma. Scar revision is a procedure performed to reduce the prominence of these scars and give them a more aesthetic appearance. Surgical or non-surgical methods may be preferred depending on factors such as the size, shape, swelling or color of the scars. Irregular and raised scars are usually removed surgically and the scar is resealed with a thinner line. For more superficial or light scars, methods such as PRP, mesotherapy, fractional laser, dermapen and chemical peeling can be used.
It usually takes 6 months to 1 year for scars to mature and become suitable for scar revision. The application is performed under local anesthesia and the patient does not feel pain during the procedure. While the recovery period after surgical intervention may be a little longer, the return to social life is faster with methods such as laser. Avoiding the sun after the procedure, using recommended creams regularly and not skipping doctor’s check-ups will increase the success of the treatment. Although scar revision does not completely erase the scars, it provides a more acceptable appearance. It is recommended that you consult your doctor in detail during the examination to determine the appropriate method for scar treatment.
